What is Coaching?

Coaching is a client-centered, non-directive conversation that seeks to help the client (that’s you!) discern clarity on any number of professional or personal situations. As the coach, I use questions to help you dig deeper, often revealing answers and possibilities that already lay just below the surface. The effectiveness of coaching does not rely on my expertise in whatever topic you bring — in fact, as a coach, I keep myself and my opinions completely out of the conversation!

How does it work?

For each session, the client brings a focus topic and an idea of what they'd like to get out of the session. For example, you might say, "I want to decide between options A, B, or C.,” or, “I want to find an approach to this upcoming conversation.” This is called our "contract" for the session. You can bring the same focus topic up at multiple sessions. Each session is its own, distinct, self-contained conversation. That is to say, I will not ask you to follow up, nor will I expect updates. We would also not "pick up where we left off" at subsequent sessions. Our 45-60 minute conversation is intended to be somewhat intensive while still allowing space for creative thinking.

Our first 20-30 minute exploratory session is a free-of-charge opportunity to discuss the concept of coaching a bit more, consider what you might like to get out of the experience, and determine if we’d work well together. If you decide that coaching is right for you and you want to continue a coaching relationship with me, I’ll send you an intake packet with some forms to review and complete.

Group Coaching

Is your leadership group or working group puzzling over something? Need some focused discernment? Navigating something complex and not sure of your next steps? Trying to get on the same page — or at least the same book? Group Coaching might be the tool you need! Group coaching is most effective with up to 10 people, with a recommended minimum of 3 sessions.

Logistics & Fees

Because I believe this resource is so valuable, I strive to make it accessible. I’m currently offering my coaching services at a discounted rate on a sliding and negotiable scale. Payments can be made for individual or multiple sessions, and can also be arranged through a third party, such as an employer.

Training & Credentials

I’m an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation (ICF). To earn this credential, I completed Level I and Level II training with Coaching4Clergy through the Southern New England Conference UCC’s “Together We Thrive” program. This training included over 160 hours of classroom instruction, and 16 hours of group and individual mentor coaching. The ACC credential was awarded following a rigorous exam. I follow the ICF Code of Ethics, which can be found here.
